The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) advises there have been minimal effects during Tropical Storm Ida. JMAA Public Safety and Operations teams continue to monitor conditions, ensuring safety for all passengers, customers, tenants, and airport employees.

Although the area remains under a tropical storm warning, with possible gusts up to 40 to 50 miles per hour, the Authority reports very little to no damage to either Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) or the general aviation airport, Hawkins Field (HKS).

Harsh weather conditions were expected to greatly impact inbound and outbound travel on Sunday, August 29 and, also today. Currently, International Drive leading into JAN is clear. The airport’s runways and taxiways are in full operational status, allowing the return of normal air service at JAN. The following are the latest airline updates:

  • American Airlines outbound flights were canceled today, however, the airline will resume flight operations Tuesday, August 31 at 8:30 a.m. Several early morning departures will be affected. For more information, please visit aa.com.

 

  • Delta Air Lines has operated at 70 percent today. Flights are expected to be operating as normal on Tuesday. For more information, please visit delta.com.

 

  • All Southwest Airlines flights were canceled today with plans to fully resume flight operations Tuesday, August 31 after 8:30 a.m. A few early morning departures will be affected. For more information, please visit southwest.com.

 

  • United Airlines also canceled its outbound flights today. They are scheduled to resume all departing operations on Tuesday, August 31, at 2:00 p.m. For more information, please visit united.com.

     JMAA Operations will continue monitoring the airports for public safety. More details will be released as needed.
