The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) proudly continues its partnership with Jackson Public Schools (JPS) and Jackson State University (JSU) with the kickoff of the fifth (5th) JMAA Education and Training Academy. The program is known as JET-A, “Fueling the Future of Aviation – Get Set to Jet!” and is scheduled for Monday, June 10th through Friday, June 14th

at Hawkins Field (HKS), Raymond Airport, JSU’s campus, the 172d Airlift Wing, and at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN).

Over forty (40+) students will comprise one of the largest JET-A classes ever, including schools from the JPS district, others in Hinds County, and participation from the Madison school district. These students are deemed to have great potential to become future aviation professionals and are selected by their various schools. This group of future aviation leaders will enjoy a robust curriculum concentrating on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) principles, and other concepts developed in partnership with JSU and several JET-A partners.

A collaborative group of external partners, including the Civil Air Patrol, Hinds Community College, along with other public and private entities have joined together to provide students with extensive learning opportunities consisting of flight simulators, drone training, seminars, aircraft familiarization, aviation planning, aerodynamics exercises, facility tours, and more.

Health and safety protocols have been implemented in coordinating the Academy’s events and activities. The Academy’s last day will feature the Class of 2024 JET-A Graduation and Reception on Friday, June 14, 3:00 PM at the Mississippi e-Center (1230 Raymond Rd., Jackson, 39204). During the ceremony, JMAA leadership and Academy partners will pin and present students with certificates and awards.
