The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) is proud to announce Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 passenger numbers not seen in our city in a decade. Significant capital projects are also under way to continue renewal and improvements at the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN).   JMAA and its world-class airline partners (American, Delta, Southwest, and United) handled over 1.2 million passengers during the fiscal year that ended September 30, 2022. These numbers are the highest since the year 2012 and outpace the post-Covid growth at most U.S. airports. JAN passenger traffic is up 42% over Calendar Year (CY) 2021, and 12% over CY 2019 (pre-Covid). JMAA’s securing the return of Southwest Airlines in 2021, coupled with the post-covid expansion of American and Delta have greatly enhanced flight choices and fare options for Jacksonians and travelers from central Mississippi.   In concert with partners at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Board of Commissioners, JMAA’s leaders, engineers and outside aviation contractors have greenlit $32 million of capital improvements under way at JAN and at Hawkins Field (HKS) to better serve airport passengers and tenants. These projects generate hundreds of good-paying jobs for Jacksonians and others in the Metro area and across central Mississippi. Runway and taxiway enhancements are taking place, and a brand-new passenger jet bridge on the East concourse will come online in November.   “The needs of our customers are vital to the success of JMAA. We operate the #1 airport in the state of Mississippi, serving the Capital region and beyond, so it is imperative that we meet and exceed the needs and expectations of our fast-growing passenger base,” said John Means, JMAA’s Acting CEO. “I’ve tasked our JMAA team to have a laser focus in providing our passengers, airport employees, and tenants with top-notch service and facilities.”   Two (2) of JAN’s celebrated air carriers operate all mainline, full-size Boeing jets: Delta, Jackson’s longest-serving airline (93 years) and Southwest operate multiple times daily to their major global hubs in Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, Houston, and Orlando. American has the most daily flights of all the carriers, flying to Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and Washington DC. United operates multiple times a day to their major hub at Houston-Bush. These hubs are the jumping-off point for flights to six (6) continents around the world, allowing business and leisure passengers to easily transact business, vacation, or visit family.   As announced just last week, JAN has brand-new quality food and beverage services on both the East and West Concourses for passengers to enjoy as early as 5:00 am. most days. Travelers can enjoy deliciously prepared foods and a sense of culture with a taste of locally themed concepts. This refreshing and rebuilding of JAN’s concessions enhances the customer experience within the airport.   JMAA is working hard to welcome its customers every single day. Thank you for flying with us!   ####   ABOUT JMAA The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) operates two airports: Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) and Hawkins Field Airport (HKS).
