The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) reports passenger numbers not seen in a decade for the calendar year 2022 (CY2022, January 1st to December 31st). In a release last week of final 2022 statistics by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) Aeronautics division, Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) continues to be the #1 airport in the state of Mississippi, carrying nearly six (6) of every ten (10) passengers boarding at the seven (7) commercial airports. JAN handled nearly 78% more passengers than than the next busiest Mississippi airport.

Delta Air Lines, the longest-serving air carrier in Jackson (since 1929), was the leader in market share, carrying 32.1% of all JAN passengers, closely followed by American with 30.5%, Southwest at 30%, and United closing the year at 7.5%.

As a result of substantial air service increases secured by JMAA at JAN during the past two (2) years, passenger volumes ended more than 16% above the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 and surpassed those of 2021 by over 29% when Mississipians returned to the skies in great numbers. This catapulted JAN into one of the very top growth airports in the U.S. in 2022. The outlook for Calendar Year 2023 is for an increase of up to 9% in numbers of passengers.

“The JMAA Board of Commissioners is proud to continue its support of the leadership and staff of JMAA in their growth plans and to assist in the modernization program taking shape, all to improve the customer experience of Jacksonians and the central Mississippi flying public,” stated Board Chairman Warren T. Herring.

Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Means, Jr. stated, “JMAA will continue to work closely with our airline partners to offer increased seats and enhanced flight options as passengers continue to return to the skies. With flights to most all the major global hubs, we in Jackson are just one (1) stop away from six (6) continents.”

This past fall, JMAA announced the opening of several new restaurant options on both the East and West concourses. Delicious, national, and locally-flavored cuisines are available to our travelers, along with a variety of beverages for all ages.

Our world-class global airline partners American, Delta, United, and Southwest continue to provide outstanding levels of Customer Service to get you on your way to friends and family this year. Please consult them or your travel professional to secure flights and/or vacations.

Happy flying from the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority: Your Connection to the World!
