(Jackson, MISS) – The Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport will be host to the arrival and transfer of the final remains of Corporal Dudley L. Evans on Thursday, April 21, 2016. The solemn occasion will be marked by family members and the local Jackson area United States Military Honor Guard beginning promptly at 3:19 p.m.
Upon his entry into the United States Army, Corporal Evans was 24 years old and assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army’s 23rd Infantry Regiment which was fully engaged in war in South Korea. According to news release from the Department of Defense, Evans was captured by enemy foes and died behind enemy lines at the Suan Prisoner of War Camp in 1951. The remains of Corporal Evans were identified through the Mortuary Affairs in Honolulu, HI and are among those of countless recovered between 1990 and 1999 through joint operations between the United States and North Korea.
The United States Flag will be a backdrop for the occasion as a salute to the family. Approximately 15-25 members of the Mississippi Patriot Guard Riders along with external law enforcement officers have been invited by the family to assist as escorts in the final transfer of Corporal Dudley L. Evans to the Boone Funeral Home in Greenville, Mississippi.
