Safety and Security

The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Division of Public Safety provides for continual patrols of Hawkins Field. Working in partnership with the City of Jackson Police Department, Hinds County Sheriff, MHP, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, DEA, ATF, FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and others; JMAA’s Officers are fully certified Police Officers with specialized training in airport safety and security measure.

All flight school operations are registered with the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration and inspected by TSA Security Inspectors. Under TSA regulations, flight training candidates are assessed as part of the Flight Training Candidate Checks Program a computer-based information and analytical tool used for risk assessment for candidates seeking flight training from U.S. aviation training providers.

Aircraft flying into and out of Hawkins field are controlled by a FAA certified Air Traffic Control tower based on the airfield. Air Traffic Control at both Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International and Memphis International Airport supplement the air traffic control services at Hawkins Field.
